On Being Positive

It is estimated that 80% of the skills we require to succeed in life are attitude-based. This includes determination, commitment, focus, motivation, empathy, persistence and compassion.  The other 20% are skills we have to acquire or are taught us such as education, technical skills and professional knowledge.

 

Today I want you to reflect on the impact your attitudes will have on your life experience. Today let’s concentrate on the 80% attitude-based skills. Let us be clear that your attitude is 100% under your control right now.  The $64 million dollar question is. Is your attitude positive or negative? 

 

Thinking positive makes you act positive

There is sound psychological evidence to show that a positive attitude and outlook is an effective way of enabling us to maximise the probability of creating successful outcomes of our actions. 

 

If we have positive expectations and a positive outlook on life, we experience events throughout the day and look for evidence to validate those beliefs. The positive person will always look for information that validates their positive outlook.  Whatever happens, they will see it in a positive light.  For example, if they were standing at a bus stop in the rain and a full bus goes by drenching them with spray from the wheels, for a moment they would be annoyed. But within minutes they would have put it in perspective and decided to get their coat dry cleaned.  The negative person standing at the same bus stop will wonder why such things always happen to them  They will be interpreting the events of that action through a negative frame of mind.

So if you determine to be 100% positive in all your thoughts, in all your actions, and critically in all your expectations you will self-select the appropriate information to enable you to keep that mood and to stay focused.

 

Your attitude is 100% under your control. In your childhood you may have been exposed you negative attitudes from a parent, teachers or other adult figures resulting in the formation of negative expectations and attitudes. If that is the case then let them go – it really is that simple.

 

Let go of the negative

So how do you change negative thoughts? You simply let them go. You can drop the negative baggage any time you want.  It's not the responsibility of other people; it is your responsibility.  Don't absolve yourself of having a bad attitude by saying, it's just the way I am. Somewhere along the life you have lived, you allowed yourself to stop believing that there was anything that you could do about it. 

 

Be positive in your thoughts and your actions and your spoken word.

 

By taking control of the way you think and the attitudes you hold, you will control the way you behave, and in so doing, put control back into your daily life. 

 

The reality is that you and you alone are the person who is going to be in charge of your thoughts, your feelings, and your emotions.  Keep them positive and you will start to see miracles happen in your life.  It may sound obvious but the great realities of life usually are.

 

Do not be influenced by the actions of other people. Stay calm and positive at all times.  You can listen to what they say, and let them assume for whatever reason that they are right. Do not allow them to influence how you feel about yourself

 

Positive attitude leads to positive thoughts

which leads to positive actions.

It’s that simple.

 

Stay 100% positive at all times and in all places.  When people ask how are you feeling just say, “I'm feeling great” using positive language. Your brain registers that what you have said is true. Your subconscious mind will try and act in accordance with what it is hearing.

 

You cannot be positive and negative at the same time - it’s just not possible.

Remember your outlook is your choice and if you make it positive in thought word and action, you will see the change manifested in your life.
